I’m Joy and my partner’s name is James. Our last name is Van Staalduinen, hence the mini van. I’m a United Methodist pastor, and he’s a project manager with a construction company. James and I officially met at the ECU Wesley Foundation, although we had known of each other for years thanks to NC Conference youth ministry. After a few years developing a friendship, we began dating in 2012. We were engaged by January of 2014, and married on May 24, 2014.
James and I enjoy traveling. We honeymooned to San Francisco and that was only the beginning. We have lived all over the United States and have traveled internationally to The Netherlands, Germany, England, Belgium, and Austria. We love an adventure, and anytime we can include our four legged family member, Fern, we do!
Early on in our relationship we said that when we got married we would wait at least 5 years to have a child. Welp, we found out we were expecting on March 6, 2019– just 2 1/2 months shy of our 5th anniversary. Our first mini van was due in November of 2019, but passed away in the first trimester at only the size of a sweet pea. Our second child was born on August 8, 2020 and we continue to document stories of love, loss, and parenting after loss.
